The Dream Graveyard

Have you allowed your dream to be buried in the dream graveyard? If so, after this you may decide to excavate it or at least, I would encourage you to.

“I am going to bring your dream to the dream graveyard” is what I overheard being said in a very intimidating voice as I was foraging in my kitchen to make Saturday breakfast.

This voice came from the TV in the living room where my daughters were taking in their dose of Saturday morning children programmes. This made me think, as it connected with a training session I delivered yesterday when I asked the delegates what was their purpose.

Having a dream can be such a personal thing and one to be guarded, nourished, believed in. When all else fails or no-one believes in the words of Susan Boyle: “I have a dream”, it is imperative that you do believe. Regardless of if people don’t believe, ridicule, speak your dream down or you down as the potential achiever of the dream, you must guard and protect your dream from the dream graveyard.

The dream catcher could be fear, low self-esteem, and the pain of past failures or simply life taking its toll in another area that has taken the wind out of you. So you have given up on life or lost faith in people or even most likely your self but, you must persist and like Martin Luther King said “I have a dream” you must have an alive dream too as it makes life worth living.

Even if that dream kills you, ends your life prematurely, isolates you from the masses, depletes your finances or takes you out of your comfort zone, your life’s dream is worthy to be achieved! You were born to have a dream, be successful, experience the unbelievable, achieve the unachievable, experience the seldom even if it is simply to inspire the onlookers who need to see it done first, so they are liberated to pursue their own dreams.

As shared by Myles Munroe so well in His book “Understanding Your Potential” – “the wealthiest places on this planet are not the oil fields of Kuwait or Saudi Arabia, the gold or diamond mines of South Africa, the uranium fields of Russia or silver mines of Africa but, the local cemeteries in your area”.

Why? “Because under the soil in those graveyards there would be buried many dreams that never came to pass, songs that were never sung, books that were never written, paintings that never filled a canvas, ideas never shared, visions that never came to reality, inventions that were never designed, plans that never went beyond the drawing board of the mind etc. Our graveyards are filled with potential that remained potential. What a tragedy” (paraphrased).

So what is your dream? What is it that is so precious to your heart that you may be too scared to even attempt to achieve just in case you fail? What is it you are saying, “I am now too old?”, what are you are now thinking, “If I never had the kids I could have?”, what is it that you are saying, “I don’t have the right education to…?” etc. etc. etc. In short, what dreams have you allowed to be brought to the dream graveyard?

This is a very personal question and can only be answered by you in the secrecy of your heart.
Please realise that what is in you needs to be birthed by you, whatever your dream is needs you to express it, what is in you, cannot be released by anyone else. So you must achieve your heart’s dream!

You have a duty, to us as your dream is not for you but, the benefit of the world who will bask in it, be entertained by it, nursed by it, nourished by it, inspired by it, whatever you have is for us so please do not hold it back any more. You may need to plan, strategize, save, create a team, tell someone who you can trust who can hold you accountable but you must go for your dream!

In closing, when you are being ushered into the next world by the vehicle of death, would you want to reflect on what you could have or should have done? Or do you want to be reassured by what you did do and contributed to the greater good of the world you are leaving? The answer to this question is key.

I believe in you, you can make it, you can truly do it plus we need you to. So release, execute or excavate those dreams that were buried and let them fly like a butterfly.
