Whilst at the gym today, I saw some of the older generation coming in for their daily workout. I was thinking it’s good that at the age of 70+ these men were still attending gym and everyday.
What stood out is it was 8am, which is the time that they come in everyday and it got me thinking, look at their consistency.
Following this I went home and as I was parking up I then seen our family cat that we call “Smokey” pulling up by the house as soon as I was coming in and I thought isn’t he consistent?
I then thought to myself, imagine if we were all that consistent? If we were consistent with our work, family, children, church, dreams, new ideas for execution, dates with the wife etc.
I know for me, I may have been further than I am now if I were more consistent in everything even though my path is well trodden. I say this but, who knows? Have you watched the movie “Sliding Doors”?
So in my Monday morning motivation series starting from today, I would like to ask you to reflect on your endeavors, roles, professional and personal and ask yourself… How am I doing and where could I be more consistent in my life? This may be a good question to ask not only yourself, but also those such as your family or loved one whom your consistency or inconsistency affects the most.
Bold move in nit? May mean the doghouse for some so proceed wisely.
At the same time, it is not good to be consistent at bad things like not finishing projects, turning up late, letting down the kids or being hard on yourself. So balance and context is needed.
Everything I write in some way ties in with mentoring and my thought is… sometimes our inconsistencies are because we are left to our own devices for too long, with no accountability or challenge. And maybe having a mentor / coach could help you gather a more positive achievement behaviour, if needed or desired.
Well, I am going to try a bit harder now and putting it out there I guess, it’s going to help the challenge. Hopefully, if I attend gym every Monday and see the elderly citizens coming in as I am leaving and I remember my consistency observation, it could inspire me to write the Monday Morning Motivation in the morning and on Monday 🙂
Have a great Monday and week ahead.
